Things haven’t exactly gone according to plan for Andre Villas-Boas’ side domestically as they have suffered back-to-back defeats at Stamford Bridge and have slipped down into fifth place in the Premier League.

The Blues will seek to ease some of their worries by cementing their place in the next round of the UEFA Champions League when they visit Bayer Leverkusen tomorrow night.

John Obi Mikel and Alex have shaken off back complaints, so will be available for action which leaves Michael Essien as the only absentee.

Cech

Ivanovic – Alex – Terry (c) – Cole

Meireles – Romeu – Lampard

Sturridge – Torres – Mata

The defensive line has been a major problem for Chelsea, with Ivanovic looking like the only one that can actually defend at the moment. I think it’s time to bring Alex out of the wilderness and give him a run of games as David Luiz looks a worse defender the more I see him play, which leaves Terry playing by default despite his own piss-poor displays of late.

Ramires started the game against Liverpool, so I’d probably opt for Meireles against Leverkusen as he provides more of a goal threat along with Lampard. I’ve have mostly been impressed from what I have seen of Oriol Romeu so far and he could end up being the answer to some of our defensive troubles and provide more protection to our back four.

I’m not sure why Daniel Sturridge didn’t start the game against Liverpool as he’s the only forward that knows where the goal is at the moment. Fernando Torres should play by default as he’s a little less terrible than Didier Drogba, who was mostly anonymous against the scousers on Sunday, whilst Juan Mata is our only natural creative influence and needs to see more of the ball.
