With the Everton hoodoo out of the way the next stop is the newest instalment of The London Derby. It’s been 15 years since our last league foray down the road and this one comes with much anticipation given our recent run of goal-scoring form.

With City and United locking horns this weekend where a nil-all draw will suffice, the newcomers arrive at just about the right time. Eight goals in two games is not a bad statistic to take to our own ‘noisy neighbours’ and my expectation is that we will come away with three points and some goals to boot. Maybe we should even take their stadium (together with the points) seeing as we need a space to build our new home (and they’re pretty close too).

While Fernando Torres will be unavailable for this one, his midweek exploits are a sign that he is getting back to his sharp and dangerous best. This could only mean that the likes of Didier Drogba and Daniel Sturridge will be raring to go out there and stake their claim in the starting lineup, knowing that the Spaniard has one more game before his suspension is up. With only Ramires the notable injury (and of course Torres’ suspension), AVB should have a full complement to choose from for this game and it’s safe to say that we can see the same outfit that did the business against Everton lining up this weekend. The front three should see Sturridge and Mata supporting Drogba upfront with Lampard, Meireles and Mikel in the middle of the park. Normal service will resume at the back with JT, Ivanovic, Bosingwa and Cole doing the defensive duties and hopefully another clean sheet for Cech.

The team is beginning to look good and barring the loss at United we can safely say that the AVB philosophy is coming together quite nicely. We looking sharp going forward and defending quite compactly so there are encouraging signs there. The time to pick up points and score goals is upon us as the fixture list has been kind to us while our rivals are locked in a match that will almost certainly stake their claim for the title. While they are both making all the early noise, we’re sitting pretty in third place and well within striking distance. Come on the Chels!

Keep the Blue Flag Flying High!

  1. Its like you read my mind! You appear to understand so much approximately this, like you wrote the ebook in it or something. I believe that you just can do with a few p.c. to force the message house a bit, however other than that, this is magnificent blog. A great read. I’ll definitely be back.

  2. I do consider all of the ideas you have presented for your post. They are really convincing and will certainly work. Nonetheless, the posts are very short for novices. May just you please extend them a little from next time? Thanks for the post.
