England and Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard believes that it is only a matter of time before his club team-mate Daniel Sturridge breaks into Fabio Capello’s Three Lions side.

The 22-year-old has gone from strength to strength in his fledgling career and looks to have broken into Chelsea’s starting line-up, so will be hoping to earn his first senior international cap soon.

I’m surprised that he hasn’t been called up to the squad already and think Capello made a mistake by omitting him for the squad to play Montenegro, which included Bobby Zamora, who is not good enough for this level and not a long term option. United’s Danny Welbeck was also included in the squad and although he has been doing well at his club, I don’t believe that he’s a better player than Sturridge and isn’t even close to the Chelsea man in terms of his technique and variety.

However, due to his own stupidity Wayne Rooney will be suspended for England’s opening game of Euro 2012 and Lampard believes that Sturridge will be a perfect replacement for the Shrek-alike in the Three Lions’ attack.

Lampard said:

“There is no doubt Daniel will break through at International level, it’s just a matter of when it happens for him.

“He can be a great player for Chelsea and for England. He has skill, unbelievable speed off the mark and he can finish. What more can you ask?

“He brings the excitement that supporters crave and his pace gives him the ability to beat his man and create a goal out of nothing.”

Well, as Lamps says ‘what more can you ask?’ Unfortunately for England fans, the blindingly obvious isn’t necessarily Fabio Capello’s strong point so we’ll have to see how long it takes Sturridge to earn a place in the England squad.
