Romelu Lukaku will not be put off by the competition he faces as he’ll seek to make his mark at Chelsea, according to Anderlecht director David Steegens.
The 18-year-old is regarded as one of the most promising young forwards in Europe and will face plenty of competition from the likes of Fernando Torres, Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka, Daniel Sturridge and Salomon Kalou, so will have his work cut out if he wants to play regularly within Andre Villas-Boas’ setup.
But Steegans says that Lukaku will not be intimidated by the big name forwards at Chelsea and will concentrate on his own game.
Steegans said:
“He will respect everyone there and he is willing to learn. But he will take his chance.
“If he plays instead of Didier Drogba – his hero – or Fernando Torres, he won’t be looking over his shoulder.”
He also revealed how football mad the Belgian international is:
“I come to England a lot to watch matches and I always took Romelu back football books. He would devour them – he loves them.
“He is totally obsessed with football. He subscribes to Chelsea TV, Manchester United TV and Real Madrid TV.”
