Trusted sources of the Tavern are convinced that the transfer of the highly respected winger, Juan Mata is expected to be announced in days if not hours.

Despite Valencia’s perilous financial state they were keen to hold onto Mata but a suggested fee of some £28million sees them selling him on their terms.

Mata has been linked with a number of top clubs across Europe, in the Premiership it was Tottenham and Arsenal who were most notably suggested destinations. Spurs appear incapable of landing anyone in this window with their targets dropping daily.

Arsenal are faring no better themselves selling their best players and seeming to find excuses galore as to why suggested replacements are ‘unsuitable.’

There was a convoluted tale about a buy out clause in the player’s contract which expired last Sunday, but all indicators are that Villas Boas has got his man.
