Yury Zhirkov is expected to leave Chelsea this summer after an unsuccessful spell at Stamford Bridge, but has fired a parting shot towards the club’s medical staff.

The Russian claims that there was nothing preventing him from playing in the final weeks of the season despite being told by team doctors that he had not fully recovered:

“There was no particular injury problem. I had to miss three days before everything healed but the doctors for some reason decided that, even by the end of the season, I had never recovered.

“Sometimes our doctors just don’t understand. I trained fully, but they argue that ‘Zhirkov is injured and not ready to play’.

“Where’s the logic? If I’m not limping and can withstand training, then why shouldn’t I get through games? Frankly, it hurts me even to talk about it.”

It is not the first time that Chelsea’s medical staff has been criticised as they completely missed Yossi Benayoun’s Achilles injury and only found out the seriousness of the problem when the Israel national team’s staff informed them of the damage.

Also, they made a series of blunders regarding Frank Lampard’s hernia and groin injuries, whilst taking their time to diagnose Didier Drogba with malaria.

Change is in the air at Stamford Bridge as a new manager is about to take charge, the squad reshaped and the scouting network also needs to be improved, perhaps the medical staff need to come under scrutiny also.

well the zhirkov thing sounds like they’ve learned from their experiences with the lampard & benny things. hard to criticise them for that.

ps. i don’t think the lampard thing was a “blunder” irc it was lampard over-exerting himself before he was ready against the orders of the medical staff.

    CHELSEA JUST NEED 4 PLAYERS:
NEYMAR for Anelka or Malouda (Neymar is a creative, tricky, left & right side striker)
MODRIC for Essien or Benayoun (Modric is a creative, playmaking midfielder)
VAN DE WIEL for Bosingwa or Ferreira (Van de Wiel is a tricky, fast, right wingback)
SUBOTIC phased in slowly for Terry (Subotic is a 6ft3 goal scoring central defender)

i am a medical proffesional.. zhirkov might not be limping or he himself wont be finding any physical damage outside in his skin.. the logic is tat even if he doesnt seem to hav any problem tat he feels like to hav, the docs are just giving its time to heal and avoid further damage to his injury… and about drogba, he was suffering from malria.. the disease tat dont seems to be common in england.. its difficult to crop out diseases like tat.. and it takes time to jus see the behaviour of the disease and diagnose it.. der is no point in blamin the staff if he himself is injured… pray to god..for not gettin such kinda injuries rather than simply blaming the medical squad!!!
