Drogba in Malaga link

After having a relatively poor season and the January arrival of Fernando Torres, the debate of whether Didier Drogba should stay or be moved on has dragged along over the past few months.

Most fans didn’t seem to like the idea of involving him in a swap deal for Tottenham’s Luka Modric, or for him to go to any other Premier League club for that matter.

But the veteran Ivorian has also been linked to a number of clubs abroad over the past six months or so, including Marseille, Galatasaray, Real Madrid and Malaga are now showing an interest in Drogba, according to recent reports.

The La Liga side are owned by Sheikh Abdullah ben Nasser Al Thani, a member of Qatar’s ruling family and isn’t short of cash to spend, so would probably be able to meet the club’s valuation of the player and meet his wage demands. Manuel Pellegrini is keen to bolster the squad and has already opted for experience after signing Ruud van Nistelrooy and Jeremy Toulalan recently.

A lot will depend on what Chelsea and the player want, but essentially, if Drogba isn’t willing to accept that he may be something of a backup player next season then it may be better for all concerned if there is a parting of the ways, especially if we sign Romelu Lukaku because we’ll then have several forwards jostling for the centre forward’s role, as I doubt we’ll be lining up 4-4-2 next season.
