The 2009 Champions League quarter final has won the debate to become Chelsea FC’s official 188SPORT ‘Moment in Time’.

The ‘Moments in Time’ campaign asked Blues fans to post their all time favourite ‘Moment in Time’ from the club’s history, as well as vote on other moments posted by fans. 1,500 fans got involved since the start of the campaign back in February.

The winning ‘Moment in Time’ was posted by Nick Winfield, who described one of the most “enthralling Champions League game ever seen by any Chelsea fan”. The match saw Liverpool go 2-0 up at half time, with Chelsea fans fearing the worst as the result tied the teams 3-3 on aggregate.

However, the game changed drastically in the second half when Nicolas Anelka was brought on as a sub, as he ran the length of the field and put in a cross to Didier Drogba who scored. With Alex scoring a belter of a free-kick and Frank Lampard converting after clever a run into the box, the score was 2-2. A Dirk Kuyt header soon took Liverpool to a 3-2 lead, before Lampard saved the game with the final goal that took the score to 4-4.

Since 188SPORT launched their ‘Moments in Time’ initiative back in February, fans voted and posted their comments on their all-time favourite game-changing moment from the club’s history. The 2009 Champions League Quarter Final has accumulated the most support, with 481 Blues fans giving that moment their vote.

Jeff Baker, Head of Marketing Services at 188SPORT, said:

“We are delighted that the ‘Moments in Time’ campaign has sparked some serious debate amongst Chelsea fans. It has been great to see some passionate Chelsea supporters showing their enthusiasm and knowledge of their club’s history. We would like to thank everyone who took part and particularly congratulate Nick on the popularity of his posting.”
