Chelsea are yet to have a new manager in place but are already looking to bring new additions to Stamford Bridge this summer, with five players set to leave the club and another five come in, according to The Independent.

The newspaper suggests that Nicolas Anelka, Yury Zhirkov, Jose Bosingwa, Paulo Ferreira and Henrique Hilario will be leaving west London. And despite reports linking Didier Drogba with a move away, the club are not planning on moving him on, apparently.

It is believed that Neymar (Santos), Kevin de Bruyne (Genk), Romelu Lukaku (Anderlecht), Dutch right-back Gregory van der Wiel (Ajax) and a reliable backup goalkeeper like Asmir Begovic are the five players that Chelsea hopes to sign ahead of next season.

However, whether we’re playing 442 or 433, it really wouldn’t make any sense to have Neymar, Lukaku, Drogba, Fernando Torres, Salomon Kalou and Daniel Sturridge at the club, it sounds as though we’d just be creating a headache for ourselves and if we were to continue with the preferred 433 we’ll be playing players out of position, why not buy wingers to play wide instead of putting forwards there? And if we change to 442, again the same problem, de Bruyne can play left side but still no right-sided winger/midfielder.

Also, it doesn’t address the need for a natural passer or playmaker in midfield and it will be disappointing if we continue to let this long-standing weakness go unresolved.

Instead of going for that lump Lukaku, why not spend the money on an attacking midfielder/winger like Eden Hazard, who creates chance after chance for Ligue 1 champions Lille, Udinese’s Alexis Sanchez, Werder Bremen’s Marko Marin or even make a cheeky bid for Tottenham’s Luka Modric?

Is Neymar really worth the attitude or will he be the next Robinho? Karim Benzema only has a year left on his contract at Real Madrid, could cost as little as £7m and despite being billed as something of a disappointment there, he has scored 35 goals and made 13 assists in his 81 appearances for the club. Kevin Gameiro has also impressed in France for his club Lorient by scoring 21 goals this season, as has Edinson Cavani, who has scored 26 in Serie A for Napoli.

If the striker making way for Neymar is Anelka, now a bit-part player at Stamford Bridge, then how do we expect to keep Torres and Drogba happy, as well as Neymar? I doubt Drogba will be happy to play backup for his £120k-a-week wages, Salomon Kalou seems disenchanted with his ‘super-sub’ tag and Sturridge, having impressed out on loan at Bolton, could be disappointingly loaned back out or even sold.
