A few months ago we [The Transfer Tavern] reported that Jose Bosingwa looks like he may be leaving Stamford Bridge.

Rumours out of Stamford Bridge are suggesting Ancelotti may be ready to swoop for Ajax’s Gregory van der Wiel . The right-back was one of the players of the World Cup became hot property last summer following the conclusion of the tournament in South Africa.

Bayern Munich and Chelsea were both said to have placed bids in the last window, but were priced out of the market by the Dutch club, who refused to listen to anything below £20m.

But news in over the weekend reported widely, including The Sun suggests that Bayern are prepared to trade and as low as €16 million.

Centre-back, Branislav Ivanovic, has covered the right-back position for most of the season for Chelsea, but Ancelotti may be looking for a more reliable wing-back to fulfil that role. Bosingwa is Chelsea’s first team choice to play in the position, but injuries have hampered the Portuguese International through the past year and possibly encouraged Ancelotti to think about a possible move.

The deal would most likely rely on Chelsea finding a suitor for Bosingwa, and Bayern Munich themselves have previously expressed an interest. The 28-year-old joined Chelsea for £16.8million in 2008 but given his growing age and previous injury problems, the Blues may consider bids of around £12million.

Replacement, van der Wiel, was thought likely to cost around the Londoners around £18million, but Chelsea could mount a last minute bid for the Dutch International. What say you Chelsea fans? Is Ancelotti right to call time on Bosingwa and bring in new blood?
