What did we learn from last night’s game? – Have your say

Last night was a disappointing one for Chelsea as Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney gave his side the advantage in their Champions League quarter-final by scoring the only goal of the match.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side will have the chance to overturn the deficit when the two sides meet at Old Trafford on Tuesday night for the return leg, but what did we learn from last night’s game?

Extra officials:

It’s not the first time this has been asked, but what are they for and how many more do we need to NOT see/do things? Patrice Evra was the last man when he brought down Ramires on the edge of the penalty area, yet the guy who has the best view in the stadium stand idly and doesn’t do a thing.

We did not perform well last night and disappointingly let United take the initiative, but after ‘ghost goals’, the Barcelona fiasco and being denied a clear penalty at the San Siro, it is becoming increasingly hard to take these sorts of decision going against us in the Champions League.

Jose Bosingwa:

Was probably our worst player last night and failed to react quickly enough to prevent Ryan Giggs from setting up Rooney’s goal. The right-back position is a problem for us in the Champions League as David Luiz is ineligible, so Branislav Ivanovic has to play in the centre with John Terry.

Can Chelsea keep a clean sheet at Old Trafford with the Portuguese defender at fullback, or is it worth starting Jon Obi Mikel in midfield and playing Michael Essien in defence?

Down, but not out:

Things could have been a little better last night if we were awarded a late penalty for Evra’s foul on Ramires, but they could also have been a lot worse if Petr Cech did not deny Javier Hernandez from extending United’s lead to 2-0 on 67 minutes, which would have left the Blues with a much bigger mountain to climb in the 2nd leg.

Chelsea will have to be a lot better if they are to turn this tie around, but it’s our last chance of silverware this season and we are good enough to do it.
