Chelsea may have been suffering a bit of a Champions League hangover after their midweek game against Manchester United, but the Blues saw off Roberto Martinez’s Wigan with a narrow 1-0 win.

Florent Malouda scored the only goal of the game and Fernando Torres should have, but unfortunately didn’t, open his Chelsea goal scoring account.

Yossi Benayoun made his long awaited return from injury, and it was he who carved out the chance for Torres, which could be a good sign of things to come.

Alex also made his return from injury and helped Chelsea’s defence close out the win in the second half. The return of the duo give Carlo Ancelotti a few things to think about in midweek as Benayoun’s creative spark could prove valuable, as well as Alex’s defending.

If Alex could feature against Manchester United, it would mean Branislav Ivanovic returns to right-back, in place of Jose Bosingwa, who looked shaky in the last game against Manchester United.
