Spanish club Atletico Madrid have revealed that both Chelsea and Manchester United have made bids for their goalkeeper David De Gea, with the latter believed to be the favourites to sign the 20-year-old.

But the player is adamant that he will not decide on his future until the end of the current campaign:

“I haven’t signed anything. I’m happy here and have a contract until 2013, so now the essential target is to get the team into Europe and when the league finishes, we’ll see.

“Until the end of the season, nothing will be decided.

“I’ve been with Atletico for many years and have real affection for the club. If Atletico want to fight for me then it would be very difficult to leave. It is my club forever.”

There were many questions raised over the quality of Petr Cech’s backup at Stamford Bridge before the season started as both Ross Turnbull and Henrique Hilario suffered their individual gaffes during preseason, which is why the club pursued Stoke goalkeeper Asmir Begovic earlier in the season.

Talk had died down as Cech has thankfully had an injury-free season and we have not really had to call upon his understudies, but that does not mean the problem has gone away, so it’s not completely surprising that the club have submitted an offer for De Gea.

If we’re battling it out with Manchester United for De Gea then I don’t think we’ll win this one, as they can offer the guy first team football because Edwin van der Sar says he will retire at the end of the season.

We still need a better standard of backup keeper though, but who?
