Chelsea and City to battle over highly-rated Sporting Lisbon star

Chelsea face a battle with Premier League rivals Manchester City for the signature of Daniel Carrico from Sporting Lisbon.

Portuguese newspaper O Jogo state that the 22-year-old Sporting captain has been observed on numerous occasions by both sides.

Carrico, who is seen as one of the most promising centre-backs in Europe, is tied down until June 2013. He is reportedly valued at around £15m.
