Tricky Brazilian flattered by Chelsea interest
The 22-year-old told R7:
“[Chelsea’s interest] makes me happy, but there is nothing concrete as yet.
“There is no offer. It makes me happy, though, because it means my efforts are receiving recognition.
“There are some Brazilians there and they have great players. Chelsea are a big club in England.”
He also added that he’d enjoy any potential link up with Chelsea target Neymar in the future:
“Neymar is a great player. Despite his age, he is already showing he has a lot of quality. It would be great to play with him – he’s doing brilliantly at the moment.”
Willian’s contract is due to expire in 2012, so his club may be willing to sell this summer rather than lose one of their prized assets for free. The player has a release clause of £25m.
Chelsea are currently lacking in the wider areas and could probably do with signing a wing player or two, especially as Florent Malouda is getting on in years and Yury Zhirkov still hasn’t really settled into life in west London. Both players have also previously been linked with an exit this summer.
The Brazilian youngster has attracted the likes of Barcelona and Chelsea following his performances in the Champions League this season, especially for his role in Shakhtar’s 3-0 win over Roma in the second round, which you can see highlights from in the video below…

As I said, I think the club could definitely do with more depth in the wider areas of the pitch, could Willian be the right man for Chelsea or are there other wingers out there you have a preference for?
