Didier Drogba has become the second Chelsea player this season linked with a move to the MLS, according to a report in the News of the World on Sunday.

During the winter it was alleged that Nicolas Anelka wanted to see out his playing days in the US after he leaves Stamford Bridge as Thierry Henry wanted to linkup with his countryman at the New York Red Bulls, but it’s also rumoured that MLS chiefs want to acquire the services of Drogba in an attempt to raise the profile of their league.

Chelsea have invested £50m in Fernando Torres and there is talk over a squad overhaul this summer and we could see more younger faces like David Luiz and Ramires arrive in west London, but for this to happen it’ll mean some players will have to depart and Drogba could be one of them.

The 33-year-old has always been something of a mercurial figure at Chelsea and is capable of the good, bad and the ugly on the pitch. After scoring 143 goals for the club and lifting three Premier League titles the forward’s name and legacy is already etched into the club’s history and although I believe this summer is the right time for him to go I believe he still could have a major role to play in our fortunes during the remainder of the season.

No disrespect intended toward the MLS, but I cannot imagine Drogba would move across the pond to play there, especially when the likes of Real Madrid, Marseille and Galatasaray are reportedly interested in gaining the forward’s services.

Where do you think Drogba will see out the twilight years of his footballing career?
