Blues to underline transfer dominance with £20m bid?

Chelsea are planning to swoop for Manchester United target Jack Rodwell, even though Everton manager David Moyes has publically declared the player as ‘not for sale’.

It was thought that despite his protests, Moyes would be forced to sell Rodwell to United or face another season on the transfer breadline. But now that Chelsea have entered the fray for the youngster, Everton could choose engage both teams in a bidding war for Rodwell’s signature.

It’s thought that a bid of at least £20 million will suffice for Rodwell, who’s made 64 starts for the Toffees. Roman Abramovich is facing a clear-out of his elderly Chelsea squad, with Didier Drogba and Florent Malouda top of the outgoing list. With Frank Lampard also coming to the twilight of his playing career, Chelsea are keen to invest in younger talent with first-team Premiership experience.

A bid for Rodwell will no doubt wipe the smile off Sir Alex’s face, but Chelsea are also planning to spoil their London neighbour’s party. Tottenham were said to be interested in acquiring the services of Athletico Madrid’s Sergio Aguero, with the Argentine apparently making it very clear to his current employers that he wants a move to the Premiership. Harry Redknapp was supposed to be close to making a move for the player, who so far has 89 goals for the La Liga side.

Once again however, the big Russian bear over at Chelsea is planning on putting his paw in the honey pot before anyone else gets a chance. The Blues are also planning their own bid for Aguero, and with the strikers good friend Fernando Torres already at Stamford Bridge, it’s likely that Carlo Ancellotti may just get his man.

It’s clear that despite spending over £70 million on the combined transfers of Fernando Torres and David Luiz, Chelsea still have a fair old kitty to back them up. Whether Man United or Spurs can match them is another matter. If these rumours are anything to go on, we could see the Chelsea lions stretching their muscles during the summer.

Bears….lions….kittys….have I made one animal analogy too many??
