Carlo Ancelotti is keen to boost the depth of his squad during the current transfer window and one of the names Chelsea have been linked with is Everton’s Steven Pienaar, who could be available for as little as £3 million.

Could the Bafana Bafana man prove to be a bargain buy?

The 28-year-old is a versatile attacking midfielder and can play on either wing, which could be particularly advantageous to the Blues as they currently lack depth in the wider positions, especially down our right flank.

Pienaar was voted Everton’s player of the season last year, but David Moyes is desperate to raise funds for a new striker as his most prolific goal-scoring talent Tim Cahill is currently away on international duty with Australia in the Asia Cup. The South African is also out of contract in the summer, so Moyes would rather let Pienaar go for a small fee than risk losing him for nothing at the end of the current campaign.

The price is not the only advantage of acquiring Pienaar’s services as he already has proven Premier League experience and is not cup-tied in Europe.
