Both Henrique Hilario and Ross Turnbull have had their fair share of gaffes when playing between the sticks for Chelsea and many feel that the duo are not adequate backup for the position, but who should the club look to bring in as an extra pair of safe hands?
Brazilian goalkeeper Guilherme Alvim Marinato has been linked with the Blues this week and seems to be a decent prospect.
Guilherme is 24-years old and is currently plying his trade in Russia for Lokomotiv Moscow. The Brazilian has made 47 appearances since arriving in Moscow, from his native Brazil, and his stock has risen following a run of impressive performances during the 2010 Russian season, as well as Lokomotiv’s European campain.
The player has 18 months left to run on his contract and reports suggest that he could be available for around £3.5 million.
Alternatively, Chelsea could renew their interest is Asmir Begovic, who was linked with a Stamford Bridge move during the summer. Begovic would likely be more expensive than somebody like Guilherme, but he has home-grown status and Premier League experience already.
There is a section of the Chelsea faithful are calling for 18-year-old Matej Delac to be recalled from his loan spell at Vitesse and be Cech’s immediate understudy. He may as well come back to west London as he is not being used by the Dutch outfit.
