Five Things We Learned About Chelsea This November

4. We love a drama: the departure of Ray Wilkins’, Frank Arnesen’s announcement that he will resign his position at the end of the season and the shock appointment of Michael Emenalo into the assistant manager’s position has triggered a lot of uncertainty and debate over the past month.

Whilst I think Wilkins’ dismissal and our bad form since then has been purely coincidental, it has definitely not been ideal and the club have chosen an odd time to shuffle the pack. Also, such changes have cast Ancelotti’s future into some doubt as he has now lost his assistant and his aide (Arnesen) against his wishes. Hopefully Ancelotti won’t be made any sort of scapegoat if the poor form continues as he’s basically doing the best job he can with a small squad and hasn’t had the luxury of money to bring in the players he wants (allegedly he has no say in such matters).

5. Our fans: the four points above are fairly negative ones, so I’d like to end on a positive and a high by praising our supporters. Chelsea fans braved snowy conditions, icy roads and transport delays to support our lads at St James’ Park on Sunday afternoon. Despite all the problems with the services the Chelsea supporters sold out their allocation and were in great voice at the home of the Toon Army – which is a great effort considering the game was live on Sky and the transport problems.
