Rumour has it that Carlo Ancelotti is interested in bringing 19-year-old Stefan Savic to Chelsea in the January transfer window, but who is he?

Savic currently plies his trade at Partizan Belgrade as a centre back and has already impressed enough to earn four caps for his national side Montenegro. The Belgrade defender was part of the stubborn backline that frustrated England in a 0-0 draw at Wembley back in October.

His impressive displays have earned him many suitors such as Shakhtar Donetsk, Roma and CSKA Moscow. The defender already has Champions League experience which is also a plus, but his club could be quite reluctant to sell one of its brightest young stars.

Dragan Djuric, Partizan Belgrade’s president, said:

“Savic is not for sale. He will stay with this club for at least two years.

“He is the future of Partizan so we don’t want to sell him. Not even for €10million.”

The centre back position is certainly one we are lacking depth in as we only really have two recognised centre backs as Branislav Ivanovic has played most of his career at right back and young Jeffrey Bruma can’t even get ahead of Paulo Ferreira at the moment.

I would like to see us sign another defender during the transfer window. I’m not sure I agree that players who are in need of surgery should be risked as Alex was against Birmingham last weekend and I would rather let John Terry have the time to recover from a long term problem. It just isn’t worth risking the fitness of our players as far as I am concerned, especially for the sake of saving a few million. Ancelotti only has a skeleton crew to work with and the cracks are beginning to show in our recent performances.
