Chelsea’s lack of squad depth has become something of a worry of late and losing three of the four last league games suggests so. Rumour has it that Carlo Ancelotti is interested in bringing Bayer Leverkusen’s Arturo Vidal to Stamford Bridge.

The 23-year-old Chilean can cover many positions as he is comfortable playing in defence, midfield and the right wing. Could he be a perfect candidate to help strengthen the depth we lost during the summer months?

Vidal has already attracted the eyes of Manchester City (unsurprisingly) as he has been in fine form this season and as he is rated at around £10m he could be quite cost-effective as he can fill into so many different positions – which I guess is important as the club seems determined to cut costs. Whether or not the club is doing it the right way is a completely different debate altogether.

The versatile player has so far scored seven goals in 18 appearances this season, so he has goals in him which could prove valuable for the times when the likes of Frank Lampard and Michael Essien are absent. Also, as a defensive midfielder he could be used to give Jon Obi Mikel some much needed resting time where available.

Here’s a video of Arturo Vidal in action:

Is Arturo Vidal the sort of target you would like to see the club go for and where do you think he would be deployed best?
