Chelsea could be willing to launch a huge move in January…

Chelsea’s pursuit of defensive reinforcements over the summer was well documented, with Antonio Conte seemingly keen to completely rebuild Chelsea’s faltering defence.

Out went Baba Rahman, and in came two shock moves for David Luiz and Marcos Alonso – both of whom have impressed since their arrival at Stamford Bridge.

You would be forgiven if you had thought that Chelsea’s defensive spending was over, especially following the capture of two such high profile players; but that no longer appears to be the case.

According to the Sun, Chelsea could be ready to launch a huge move for AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli. They add that the Blues were keen on the young Italian over the summer, before bulking at AC Milan’s £49 million demands.

Chelsea are, certainly, far from the finished article, and so in reality, it does not come as a surprise to see that they are back in for Romagnoli.

With question marks continuing to persist over the pending expiry of both Ivanovic and Terry’s contracts – the Blues could be looking to jump the gun and replace the pair ahead of time. Likewise, Cahill’s inconsistent form could force Conte’s hand.

Romagnoli himself would, on the surface, prove to be a shrewd purchase – given that he would be a perfect fit in the Premier League. Strong, physical, technically gifted and young – he could be Antonio Conte’s ideal defensive replacement.

The Italian has enjoyed quite the rise to stardom since arriving at AC Milan – could Chelsea be his next step on the road to greatness?
