Eto'o-Willian

Chelsea have already confirmed that an agreement has been reached to bring Willian to Stamford Bridge from Anzhi Makhachkala but it’s expected that it could become a double signing with Samuel Eto’o following shortly after.

The Telegraph‘s Jason Burt believes the announcement over a deal for Eto’o could be made later this week as the Blues have admitted defeat over their chances of signing number one target Wayne Rooney.

Rooney himself is also resigned to staying with United for the meantime and letting his contract run down in the hope that he could leave during the January transfer window or more likely next summer when he enters the final year of his deal.

As for Eto’o, talks over his future have been up-and-down as one minute he’s definitely off, the next his manager says he’s staying and now he’s expected to leave again. The 32-year-old has worked with Jose Mourinho before during their days at Inter Milan and he’s a player that the manager trusts.

Chelsea have a policy when it comes to players over 30 and should Eto’o sign for the West London club it would be on a one-year deal. The fee we’re expected to pay is £2 million and he’ll be on a contract worth around €6 million, which would mean he would be taking a huge pay cut simply to join the club but I would suspect that there would be a fair few bonus clauses in there relating to performances etc…

He may not be the first choice of either the club or the fans and his best days are obviously behind him but if the reported figures are true then it could potentially be the bargain deal of the transfer window whilst giving Mourinho the opportunity to go back in for Rooney (or someone else) next summer.
