The future of Belgian international Kevin De Bruyne has been speculated over the past few months amid interest from Borussia Dortmund and also rumours that he was to be used in the bid for Bayer Leverkusen’s Andre Schurrle.
Bayer Leverkusen’s chief executive Wolfgang Holzhauser already claimed that De Bruyne will be going on loan to the BayArena but Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc claims that the 21-year-old only has eyes for his club.
Zorc told Kicker magazine:
“De Bruyne only wants to join Dortmund.”
He’s yet to make his official debut for the club since signing from Genk in 2012 and he has been a revelation for Werder Bremen in Germany this season, which is the reason he’s attracting so much interest. He also regularly shines for his country ahead of bigger names, a little like Oscar does for Brazil.
Chelsea have done a brilliant job in scouting the player and finding an appropriate loan move for him, I just hope their next decision is the right one. He’s probably already good enough to play a part in our first-team squad and can certainly give Oscar a run for his money but if he wants regular football guaranteed then I have no issue with him going back out on loan, just as long as he isn’t sold.
The situation is tiresome though and it’s irritating that two Bundesliga clubs are making a battle over one of our players as public as they have. I’m not particularly thrilled by the prospect of Schurrle and Dortmund don’t have anything that we want, so Chelsea shouldn’t deal with either.
Of course there is the possibility that De Bruyne himself may be keen on a particular club and that’s up to him but he hasn’t said so publicly and would probably prefer to sit down and discuss his options with the new manager before making a decision.
