Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic admitted that he and the rest of the squad would love to see Jose Mourinho return to Stamford Bridge amid rumours that are gathering momentum.

The Real Madrid boss more-or-less revealed that he probably won’t be at the Santiago Bernabeu next season and will sit down and talk to the club’s hierarchy. He also implied that he will be going back to a played where he ‘is loved’ and spoke of England, its fans and press during his press conference following the match against Borussia Dortmund.

Ivanovic, 29, revealed that the Chelsea dressing room wants Mourinho when speaking to a Serbian newspaper:

“Everyone who loves Chelsea hopes Mourinho will return.

“As players we don’t have any confirmed information that he would return. But we would all like it to happen because he is one of the best coaches in the world.

“He is immensely respected by all for what he has done for the club.

“With him we can be stronger as a club. It would add another dimension to Chelsea, and it would be sure to help us become one of the main contenders for the title.”

It’s all going a bit mental at the moment in relation to Mourinho’s future which makes it all the more frustrating for everyone that it is unlikely that any official word will be given before the end of the season, but a dramatic return is looking more likely than it ever did and I’m not sure if Mourinho would stick his neck out like that if there wasn’t something behind it. He’s either spoken to Chelsea or is trying his utmost to get their attention with the classic ‘come-and-get-me plea’.

As for the players, they’re only human and can’t help but get caught up in the speculation like the rest of us. I only hope that they try to forget about managerial appointments in the meantime and concentrate on doing the job they need to do.

I’ve not always been a fan of Jose’s playing style and hope he will commit to youth development if he does come back as he hasn’t done enough of that during his career, but he is a winner, a personality and won’t have let the press or FA get away with their usual rubbish without complaint.

  1. wos da yank says:

He’s not good enough for chelsea anymore. His style is boring. His madrid squad was vastly more expensive than dortmund and yet was out played bye them. His flirting with man utd for that job, lack of youth development, and apparent insistence that chelsea aren’t good enough for him unkess we are in the cl next year is a huge turn off. I say, he’s not good enough fir us because he couldn’t win the cl with madrid…let me go to psg…hire ancellotti back…go for klopp…or get pelligrini please. Hiring jose would be a massive step backwards for chelsea….boring boring chelsea will be sang again if he returns.
