Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas is hoping that the upcoming cup games against Birmingham City and Napoli in the FA Cup and Champions League respectively.

The Blues have dropped to fifth place in the Premier League following their defeat to Everton at Goodison Park yesterday and Villas-Boas is reportedly under pressure from Roman Abramovich, who has frequented Cobham of late and probably hasn’t been too impressed with what he’s seen from the players of late.

Chelsea will play Birmingham on Saturday and Napoli on the 21st.

Villas-Boas said:

“There are two different competitions now ahead of us and two competitions where we want to show a different quality.

“We have one week to prepare for Birmingham and then Napoli.

“They are two competitions where we are in a very good position and we have to rebuild confidence.

“We are in the last 16 of the FA Cup and we hope to continue to progress. That shows the spirit and resilience in a different competition.”

Villas-Boas is a hard man to read at the moment as he seems so relaxed during this awful spell of form, like he knows his job is safe or has accepted what comes with a dismissal.

He’s definitely made mistakes with his team selection, substitutions and tactics but the lack of effort on the players part in some games is plain disrespectful. Many will argue that it is the manager’s job to motivate the players but we have seen this behaviour before. Under Luiz Felipe Scolari the players were completely unwilling to try any of his ideas and last season during Carlo Ancelotti’s reign the lack of effort during the ‘bad moment’ was embarrassing.

I’m always hopeful that our form will pick up and we’ll make it through the next round of the FA Cup in all likelihood but I’m not so confident about the Napoli game.

AVB should be looking over his shoulder, Birmingham probably have the highest managerial headcount this season after turning over numerous clubs.

“We’ll make it through the next round of the FA Cup by all likelihood”….suggest Mr AVB puts in a call to his pal Arsene Wenger as he suffered last year with the same delusions!!

  4. Avb should becareful next 2 game most win or…….

AVB is solely responsible. He either has a suicide wish or he does not know what he is doing really? If you know some players are either sabotaging you or not pulling their weight, STOP USING THEM. Psyche up the young lads and put them in, can they really perform worse than the bunch he has right now? Are these not the same lads that won the Youth FA cup? I just don’t understand our team, we see other teams feature their young ones, but we never/rarely do, this is even a condemnation on our scouting unit. I am sure if Welbeck, Chicharito, Oxlaide, Dyer, Ramsey, Callejon, Ozil even Messi and many more are in Chelsea they would never see the light of day. Pls feel free to let me know if you feel otherwise.I am sure mixed with the few old guys that are willing to play for him, he can still get the right mix and balance relying more on the younger chaps. If anything, he should be the one promoting youths more as he himself was considered for a position everyone seem to think he is too young to occupy so why is he scared to give youth a chance as he has been given?
