Several senior Chelsea players have lost all faith in Andre Villas-Boas and are demanding that the club bring back Guus Hiddink as manager to save the club’s season just as he did when Luiz Felipe Scolari was dismissed three years ago.
Villas-Boas has come under a tremendous amount of pressure after the 2-0 defeat against Everton saw the club fall to fifth place in the Premier League, outside of the Champions League qualification places.
There have also been rumours of a training ground bust-up in a meeting called by Roman Abramovich after Andre Villas-Boas cancelled a scheduled day off and informed the players that they were to report to Cobham on Sunday morning. It had been reported that the owner and manager tore into the players for their poor performances, but the players had a fair bit to say for themselves and also made their feelings clear.
Ordinarily, Abramovich and the board would bow to the whim of the players and sack the manager which we have seen happen several time before. But many believe that the Russian billionaire told the players that Villas-Boas has his full backing, but how long will that last if the players refuse to pull their finger out and results continue as they are? Abramovich is backing his manager now, but will he trust him with the millions he’d have to spend in the summer following the departure of several of our prima donnas (in all likelihood the players leaving the revolts are the same ones that are well past their prime)?
There’s also the fact that Chelsea face losing a fortune in revenue if Chelsea fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League and it would also make it much harder to attract the sort of players they’d want to bring in over the summer, so Abramovich himself may have Hiddink in mind himself as he’s a friend of the Russian and is a man he trusts.
Another factor in Abramovich’s thinking could be the availability of Jose Mourinho in the summer. It’s rumoured that many of the current squad are still in contact with their former coach and Porto chief Pinto da Costa argued that it is undermining Villas-Boas. Abramovich is also on friendly terms with Mourinho and the latter has always said that his story belongs with Chelsea, could he be set for a spectacular return in the summer?
Villas-Boas has definitely made mistakes during his time as Chelsea boss, he will, and hopefully he will learn. But there’s no excuse for the players to perform the way they have been. It’s not their place to determine which tactics we should be playing or who should be the manager, so the lack of effort is not only unforgivable it is a blatant show of disrespect to the club.
The manager may go, but there’s too many players at the club that have out stayed their welcome and the clear out is long overdue.
What does the future hold for Villas-Boas and will we see an old face return to Stamford Bridge this summer?

The player power has to stop, for sure, but I never saw why roman felt AVB had the credentials for this rebuild to start with and after a half season where we can only be said to have regressed rather than improved I no longer feel even hope that AVB COULD be the right man when RA wouldn’t give Jose, Carlo or Scolari the time or chances he’s giving AVB.
Some senior players need to shut up and put up but AVb also needs tostart sticking to his own successes at Porto. Return to the high pressing game now Cahill and Luiz offer more pace at CB and stop playing favourites when they cannot play(Bosingwa and Meireles should never have been chelsea players)yet remain in the team however bad they get yet kids aren’t given a shot to even try to show what they have when AVB said they’d all be considered.
The players need to suck it up but I blown if I know where people get their faith in AVB because since Stoke we’ve gone downhill and that’s the only spell we can really judge AVB as a manager in England and it’s going wrong. If we miss out on CL qualification just how much will this experiment on what can, on RA’s part, only ever have been a hunch about how good AVB was, cost the club? This is the toughest rebuild in football history, allowed to fester way tioo long and was given to a man who’s never had to rebuild as much as a junior side. Porto were ready made and Academica was a little ma management job. Saddest of all I can’t even see whagt AVB THINKS he’s doing even though I totally know what team he’s likely to pick. the only theme is poor football.

Yes AVB is incompetent. What is Bosingwa, Torres and Maluda doing at Chelsea. He had the opportunity to bring in Eden Hazard and Willian last january, but he childishly blew the opportunity away. Claiming that Hazard is Champion league cup-tie, as if the FA cup and qualification for next year’s Champions league are gotten on a plater of gold. He has failed.

Less 2 say, AVB u r 2 poor in thinking as manager u suposed 2 hv understand that every league in d world has their own tradition, as u r coming 2 premeirship u suposed 2 hv thrown away d style of play u had at porto nd come in wit d tradition of premier league it wil take AVB gud 3yr to understand english premier league my own opinon, so let AVB go so dat we can qualify 4 d next champions league
