Chelsea are lining up a move for Liverpool midfielder Raul Meireles, the Daily Mail reports.

The Portuguese international was voted the PFA Fans Player of the Year for his superb debut season at Anfield but isn’t in Kenny Dalglish’s plans.

An influx of midfielders at Anfield has pushed Meireles down the pecking order and now Chelsea could swoop to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

Andre Villas-Boas is desperate to add a creative midfielder to his squad and has now put the 28-year-old alongside Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric as his top targets.

The Chelsea boss knows him well from their time together at Porto and is convinced that a partnering the two in midfield will add an extra dimension to the Blues attack.

He see’s Meireles as the perfect foil for the Croatian international and is prepared to pay £12 million to bring him to West London.

Dalglish needs to sell to balance the books after a £100 million spending spree which has seen Charlie Adam, Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson brought in at inflated prices.

News of Chelsea’s interest and potential for Champions League football is sure to sway Meireles who knows he won’t see much game time at Anfield in the new campaign.

This is bunkum, AVB was only at Porto for a month before Meireles was sold to Liverpool. Liverpool need squad depth, why would they sell and do we really need a 28 year old…also if Meireles has any sense he will see what happened to Benayoun and think twice before committing his future to the bench…

I really can’t make out why LFC bought Jordan Henderson.Every single LFC player is better than Henderson. In midfield he is the last one I’d pick at any given time. The strangest purchase.Steve Bruce struck gold off-loading Henderson and not just that,at a rediciulous price. Now that mistake is surely evident and acknowledged. Are we going to make another mistake selling Aquilani or Meireles? We needn’t buy Henderson.I send my son to a soccer clinic and pay for it,but LFC not only provide clinic for free we pay Henderson a finished product’s salary.Henderson’s money could have been saved totally and we’ll still do better or could have been spent on one or two proven player who will have to earn their money. It could have benn a Gary Cahill or even Rodallega or any other player is better than Henderson. I wanted Henderson to be good though I saw all the games he had with England or pre-season with LFC, we surely have in hand an expensive passenger. There hasn’t been any meaningful pass made. Apart from giving back the ball he receives, he’ll give it away or pass it back backwards.Henderson hardly gives the ball away but Henderson play it save to not get blammed and pass the ball back where its safer and less chance the ball be intercepted. Behind !!! If LFC can get half the price back for Henderson, we should rush to do so. Henderson is the no 1 mistake Kenny has made and I hope Carroll is not a flop.
“Henderson’s purchase is a no brainer” Sell bvack half price and we’ll still benefit.

    Yay !!!!
