Barcelona youngster Oriol Romeu has confirmed that his agent has held talks with Chelsea over a move to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas had previously confirmed that the club agreed a fee of around £5m with Barca for Romeu and the promising youngster could help provide cover for long term injury casualty Michael Essien.

Reports suggest that the deal is close and I assume it will be completed after the player returns from international duty as he is currently representing Spain’s U20s in the FIFA U20 World Cup and the player has said that he believes Chelsea to be a great option for him.

The 19-year-old defensive midfielder told AS:

“Barcelona and Chelsea have already reached an agreement, and my agent was in London to listen to their offer. Chelsea is a great option for me. If everything goes well, why not? Leaving Barca hurts, but you have to take your chances.”

Chelsea fans will be able to catch Romeu in action tonight as he is expected to play for Spain U20s tonight as they take on Ecuador, which can be seen on British Eurosport at around 11pm (BST).
