Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas confirmed to the press that Spanish midfielder Oriol Romeu will undergo a medical with the club’s medical staff whilst in Colombia, as the 19-year-old is competing in the FIFA Under-20 World Cup.

The Blues have agreed a fee with Barcelona for Romeu, which is reportedly worth around €5m and the Catalan side have the option to re-sign him for €10m in 2013, but that doesn’t mean Romeu would go even if they did meet the buyback clause as he is not obligated to accept personal terms.

When the deal is finalised Romeu will become Andre Villas-Boas’ second signing as Chelsea manager after Thibaut Courtois joined from Genk for €9.5m earlier this month. Romeu could provide useful cover for the injured Michael Essien and AVB is a long-term admirer of the player, who he tried to sign whilst at Porto.
