After going out on loan several times during his time at Stamford Bridge, Michael Mancienne has decided to call time on his Chelsea career and has side for Bundesliga club Hamburg SV.

After completing his £3m move to the Bundesliga club, the 23-year-old told the club’s official website:

“HSV is a big, well established club with fantastic fans.

“It’s a great challenge for me to be playing for this club.”

And former Chelsea Sporting Director Frank Arnesen, also now at Hamburg, added:

“I have followed his development for years and I’ve been aware of his great potential.”

Mancienne only made half a dozen appearances for the Chelsea first-team and was always unlikely to get a chance at Stamford Bridge, so it was best for both him and the club that he moved on.

There’s not many English players who go off to play in another European league, especially young ones, so it’s certainly an intriguing move and it will be interesting to see how his career develops.
