Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti is plotting a £20 million raid on title rivals Manchester City for their England international full back Micah Richards. The pacey defender admitted recently that he may have to leave Eastland’s in search of regular first team football, despite playing in 12 league games this season.

Richards, 22, had seen his career stall somewhat after bursting on to the scene at City and is only now starting to rekindle the form that made him England’s natural successor to Gary Neville.

Ancelotti is apparently concerned with the manner that his Champions are conceding goals and feels they need to return to their more physical nature.

Richards would add some much needed steel to the blues defence as well as providing a pacey attacking option going the other way.

It is believed Mancini would be prepared to do business at around £20 million but, wouldn’t want to lose the player until the summer transfer window.

Ancelotti will not want to wait that long as he craves a ‘quick fix’ to Chelsea’s current poor defensive form.

What do you think Chelsea supporters, is Richards the man for the job?

“…and is only now starting to rekindle the form that made him England’s natural successor to Gary Neville.”

And that’s the key to the whole situation – Richards was inconsistent and unreliable for most of last season. We’ve only just started to see him realise the potential he showed as a 17 year old and as the article says, he’s played 12 times this season already.

As a City fan I’d hate to see him leave but if he wants to be in the side every week he’s got to justify that with his performances week in week out. As I write he’s still got some way to go in that respect – I wonder if he thinks he can hare off upfield and get caught out of position 5-6 times in a match for Chelsea (or anyone else) and not get dropped?

A right back? Well, what’s wrong with Bosingwa? Oh yeah, Ancelotti for some reason prefers Ferreira. Don’t get me wrong, i love Ancelotti but if he keeps playing Ferreira instead of Bosingwa, then i’m just gonna shake my head.

I think £20m is too much for him, even when you take his home-grown status into consideration.

However, he is a player that I like and think that although he’s a tad inconsistent he’s still young enough to learn and improve. Needs to spend more time working on his game and less time in the gym though.
