Jeffrey Bruma has not really had many opportunities to play in the first team so far this season and has revealed that he is interested in going out on loan.

Why did this not happen months ago?

The reason I say that is because although Bruma was billed as the fourth choice centre back at Chelsea following Ricardo Carvalho’s departure in the summer, but he has not even got into the starting XI when both John Terry and Alex have been out.

Carlo Ancelotti fielded Paulo Ferreira, a fullback, against Sunderland at home and the result was as you would expect. Ferreira tried, but ultimately failed and many fans were peeved that Bruma did not play. Since then Alex, who is in need of knee surgery, has been asked to play through his injury until John Terry returns.

Regarding a move away, Bruma said:

“I’m definitely interested in leaving Chelsea on loan. I don’t really know what Chelsea want though. I’m not the type of person to step up to manager Carlo Ancelotti to say that I want to leave.”

“That just feels a bit strange. I’d be quite happy with a loan move though. We’ll have to wait and see what happens in the next few weeks.”

The Chelsea defender added:

“It would be best to join another Premier League side, but I’d also be quite happy to join a German or Dutch club.

“I’m really interested in joining PSV on loan. They play European football and are one of the top teams in the Eredivisie. It’d be fun to play for PSV.”

If we do not need to spend in January and did not need to in the summer because our young players are good enough, why do they not play? If Bruma was never going to be trusted as a proper fourth choice centre half then why did we not loan him out to someone who will play him?

Bruma is one of our brightest young talents and I hope he can get move of a chance one way or another. I just feel like we have wasted opportunities to start him, even in situations which were arguably quite desperate.
